Junichi Kojima is Professor in Biology at the Faculty of Science, Ibaraki University, Mito, Japan. His interests involve taxonomy, phylogeny, behavior and social evolution of Hymenoptera, specially the family Vespidae. He has been a research associate in the Division of Invertebrate Zoology, American Museum of Natural History since 1993. He is on the editorial board of Entomological Science (published by the Entomological Society of Japan), Species Diversity (published by the Japanese Society of Systematic Zoology) and Insectes Sociaux (published by the International Union for the Study of Social Insects).

Summary of Research & Education:

Junichi completed his Ph.D. in 1986 in the Department of Biology, Tokyo Metropolitan University, Tokyo, Japan. Since he was appointed Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Science, Ibaraki University, Mito in 1987, he has been promoted to Associate Professor, and is now Professor. He has published over 100 papers on the taxonomy, phylogeny and biology of the Vespidae, mainly social wasps, and also on the principles of nomenclature. He teaches courses in systematics, biodiversity science and behavioral ecology.
