Gimo M. Daniel is an entomologist, South African Y1-NRF-rated scientist, and National Geographic Society Explorer. He is currently Principal Museum Scientist at the National Museum, Bloemfontein, a position he has held since 2019, and was recently appointed as an extraordinary lecturer at the University of Pretoria in 2025. His research focuses on the systematics and biogeography of dung beetles and related scarab beetles, emphasizing the integration of molecular and morphological evidence to refine invertebrate taxonomy. By investigating taxonomic stability, speciation processes, and biogeographical patterns, his work plays a critical role in conservation efforts and biodiversity documentation, particularly in response to climate change and habitat fragmentation. His passion for entomology and zoological nomenclature began during his high school years in his native Mozambique. He pursued higher education with a B.Sc. from Universidade Pedagógica, Mozambique (2010), an M.Sc. from Universidade Federal da Grande Dourados, Brazil (2014), and a Ph.D. from the University of Pretoria, South Africa (2019). With extensive expertise in biosystematics and evolutionary entomology, he has published nearly 50 papers and book chapters, contributing significantly to the advancement of taxonomic and nomenclatural knowledge.
