Summary of Research & Education:
Dmitry is conducting a research program on leafhopper insects. The main focus of his study is comparative morphology of leafhopper nymphs and taxonomy of microleafhoppers of the subfamily Typhlocybinae. He is also involved in the development of several web applications for taxonomists, such as 3i, SpeciesFile, TaxonWorks, promoting a cybertaxonomic approach in science and resulting in creation of online taxonomic checklists, interactive keys, taxonomic web pages and other tools helping in preparation of monographic revisions of large groups of insects and other organisms. All projects have very strong emphasis on validations based on the rules of Zoological Nomenclature.
Dmitry graduated from Voronezh State University (Russia) and earned his PhD in the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (St. Petersburg, Russia). Since 2002, Dmitry is working at the Illinois Natural History Survey, University of Illinois at Urbana‐Champaign (United States) as a research scientist. He has published more than 50 scientific papers on taxonomy, systematics, and comparative morphology of leafhoppers, and provided updated checklists for several global projects like Catalogue of Life, Global Names Architecture, GBiF, Encyclopedia of Life, iDigBio.
