Professor Alessandro Minelli

Overview:
Alessandro Minelli, born
in Treviso, 20.12.1948, is professor of Zoology at the University
of Padova. Up to the mid '90s, his main scientific interests
have been myriapod phylogeny and taxonomy as well as the principles
and methods of biological systematics. Alessandro has been
the chief editor of a checklist of the fauna of Italy and the
principal investigator of an electronic catalogue of world
centipedes (http://chilobase.bio.unipd.it/). During the last
decade, his main research interests have turned towards evolutionary
developmental biology, with special regards to the origin and
evolution of appendages and segmentation. Among his works are
a book on Biological Systematics - The State of the Art (London,
Chapman & Hall 1993) and the monograph The Development
of Animal Form (Cambridge, Cambridge University Press
2003).
Alessandro is Honorary Fellow
of the Royal Entomological Society of London and editor or member
of the editorial/advisory boards of Journal of Zoological
Systematics and Evolutionary Research, Evolution & Development, Journal
of Evolutionary Biology, Frontiers in Zoology, Zootaxa, Zoologischer
Anzeiger, Deutsche Entomologische Zeitschrift, Zoosystema, Theory
in Biosciences, Tropical Zoology, International
Journal of Biological Sciences.
