Mark S. Harvey

Overview:
Mark has conducted a research program on arachnids and other arthropods for 30 years, running a large and successful laboratory in the Western Australian Museum currently staffed with several researchers and post-graduate students. His major passion is the study of pseudoscorpions, but has also contributed to the study of other arachnid orders including schizomids, water mites, scorpions and spiders. He has served in many administrative positions, including Vice-President of the International Society for Arachnology, is currently Vice-President of the International Society of Biospeleology, and is a Subject Editor of the Journal of Arachnology, and is Editor of the Records of the Western Australian Museum.
Summary of Research & Education:
Mark completed his Ph.D. in 1983 in the Department of Zoology, Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. After two years in the Australian National Insect Collection, Canberra and the Museum of Victoria, Melbourne, he was appointed Curator of Arachnids in the Western Australian Museum, Perth in 1989. Since then he has been promoted to Senior Curator, and is now Head of the Department of Terrestrial Zoology. Having published over 160 research papers, books and CD-ROMs, his major contribution has been a complete on-line catalogue and bibliography of pseudoscorpions, located at http://www.museum.wa.gov.au/arachnids/pseudoscorpions/.
