R. Bruce Halliday

Overview:
Bruce is conducting a research
program on many groups of mites, especially those groups that
have economic significance as either pest or beneficial species.
He combines this role with his position as the Curator of Arachnids
in the Australian National Insect Collection (ANIC). Bruce has
extensive experience in the taxonomy and biology of insects and
mites, and has applied this experience to a variety of research
projects over more than 20 years.
Summary of Research & Education:
Bruce completed his Ph.D degree
in 1978, in the Department of Genetics, University of Adelaide,
Australia. He then spent 3 years in the University of East Anglia,
England, working on the population genetics of the alpine grasshopper
Podisma pedestris. He joined CSIRO as an acarologist in 1981,
and has pursued a variety of projects in the systematics and
biology of mites. His major projects include a long-term study
of the family Macrochelidae, the systematics and biology of the
redlegged earth mite Halotydeus destructor and its natural
enemies, the compilation of Mites of Australia: a Checklist and
Bibliography, and the organisation of the 10th International
Congress of Acarology.
